Citizens of Liège!

Hello Burger Fans,

On Monday evening we were invited to the awards ceremony for the Liège Citizen of the Year. For those who followed us on Insta (@TheHuggysBar), you couldn’t miss it in our story… (the others, shame on you!)

For 29 years the Sudpresse group has honoured a citizen who has distinguished himself or herself as: Sportsperson of the Year, Manager of the Year, Artist of the Year and Citizen of the Year. One of these four winners will then win the supreme accolade, the title of “Citizen of the Year”.

Obviously The Huggy’s Bar wasn’t shortlisted as Sportsperson of the Year – you guessed it… but rather in the “Manager of the Year” category.

How does it work?

IN NUMBERS:
4 categories / 3 candidates per category / 1 winner per category / 1 “Liège Citizen of the Year”.

Within Sudpresse, Vlan, VivaCité and the local TV channels, journalists first select three candidates per category for the Liège region. Once these candidates are pre‑selected, the public comes into play: for three weeks, with a maximum of one vote per day, each of us can vote and thus elect “our” favourite candidate for each category.

On the night of the ceremony the sealed envelopes are opened to announce the four winners before announcing THE “Citizen of the Year 2017”, all categories combined, chosen by the press jury.

For the second time in our short career we had the immense honour of winning the “Manager of the Year” award, i.e. the economy category! Yet another big step forward for us, a consecration in our home city, our STRONGHOLD! We can never thank you enough for your support, for the trust you place in us and for coming to eat the best burgers in town!

Next step: one day, yes one day… to win the “Citizen of Liège” award all categories combined… Although to be honest, facing the great Nafissatou Thiam, we’re struggling… 😀
