The Huggy’s Bar, the updated story
Hello Burger Fans,
Seven years ago – an eternity in burger years – we told you the incredible story of how The Huggy’s Bar was created and its first few years of existence. The origin hasn’t changed, but a lot has happened in the past seven years (fortunately for us and for you 🤗) and we have to tell you about it.
Celebrating our tenth anniversary is the perfect opportunity to offer you a retrospective of our adventure. In this new THBlog post we’re sharing everything there is to know about Huggy’s since its Big Bang! Hang on Burger Fans, a lot has happened. 😬😉

2008: The founders become friends 🎓
It was in 2008 that Thomas and Roberto met on the benches of HEC ULiège. A real entrepreneurial and friendly love at first sight made them inseparable! 🤝
2011: The trip to the USA 🗽
2012: The first The Huggy’s Bar 🥇
Very quickly Roberto and Thomas decided to open a burger restaurant inspired by the sports bars they experienced in the USA. Located on Boulevard d’Avroy, The Huggy’s Bar opened in September 2012 and immediately became a hit with the people of Liège. 💪 The new restaurant was packed all the time. The Huggy’s Bar became the reference for eating the best burgers! 🍔
2015 – 2016: Expansion in the Liège region 👆
After opening and the success of the first restaurant, the two entrepreneurs decided to take time to let the concept mature, gather as much customer feedback as possible and optimise the way they worked in order to offer the best possible version of The Huggy’s Bar before opening more restaurants.
The following years were marked by many openings and rapid growth of the group, always crowned with success. In 2015 The Huggy’s Bar expanded into neighbouring municipalities (Nandrin and Soumagne) to make the best burgers available to even more customers. In 2016 the centre of Liège got its second restaurant in the Passage Lemonnier, followed by the opening in Awans. At the same time the Huggy’s Bar headquarters moved to Awans, in the same building as the restaurant, giving the team a base camp.
…and the story continues with more restaurants, beer pairing, house beers and collaborations that have made our brand what it is today. To be continued!
