Gluten: the black sheep of our plates?
Hello Burger Fans.
Today, for a change, we’re sharing a health article.
Unheard of a few years ago, everyone in the culinary world is talking about gluten.
Is gluten really the big bad wolf of our plates or just a fad of new diets?
What exactly is gluten?
Gluten is a protein naturally present in many cereals such as wheat, barley, spelt, oats, rye, etc. This protein naturally gives elasticity and volume to breads and cakes.

So nothing serious in itself – it’s a completely natural protein. But why is gluten so disliked? Quite simply because it can provoke various reactions in consumers, more or less serious: allergy, intolerance (also known as coeliac disease) or sensitivity (non‑coeliac intolerance).
People who are sensitive have to eliminate gluten from their diet and therefore avoid bread, pasta, beer, biscuits and other pastries.

What’s controversial today is that gluten is over‑hyped and dramatised, forming the basis of many diets promoted by certain celebrities (isn’t that right, Gwyneth?).

Products labelled “gluten‑free” are flourishing on the shelves. What was once synonymous with “health problem” has become an argument for well‑being and slimness served up everywhere – a great sales opportunity for certain brands. The problem is that following a gluten‑free diet when you’re not sensitive can lead to nutritional deficiencies.
So some voices are starting to warn against the excesses of gluten‑free regimes.
We, on the other hand, believe in peace in the household! So whether you’re allergic, intolerant, sensitive or have decided to remove gluten from your diet by choice, we’ve thought of you!
The Huggy’s Bar offers all its burgers with gluten‑free buns on request, and also a special gluten‑free beer, Caulier “Gluten Free”.

We do our utmost to reduce the risk of cross‑contamination. Nevertheless, zero risk doesn’t exist, in particular because we don’t yet have the necessary professional equipment. If you suffer from serious intolerances, please be careful, dear Burger Fans! ♥
What do you think? Is gluten the new food buzz or is it better to remove it from your diet?
We can’t wait to read your opinions!
