Huggy’s Dogs

Hello Burger Fans,

Last April we opened, on rue Pont d’Avroy, our very first Huggy’s Dogs… From gourmet burgers we shifted to a new product: American Hot Dogs. Gourmet as well, of course! Since opening we’ve improved each of our recipes, developed two new Hot Dogs (and a third one soon!), gradually rethought the concept, and opted for a whole new bun.

Why “Gourmet”?

Well, we asked ourselves the question. You hear it everywhere, in all sorts of contexts… But how do you describe it? We looked up the definition that seemed most appropriate: “This word is used as an adjective to qualify dishes of refined and tasty preparation.” So who can claim to offer so‑called “gourmet” dishes? We can. And we’re going to prove it to you with a quick presentation of our suppliers. Because “making refined and tasty dishes” can’t be done without working with the best products 😊

A bun like in New York

At the very beginning, we used a mini baguette cut at both ends to make our Hot Dogs (not very practical, we admit!). But as we rolled up our sleeves to make the best Hot Dog, we realised that the bun played a major role in the tasting experience. We searched for an authentic artisan bun, partly cut, as in the original New York delis. We found our happiness with our baker, who designed a soft, slightly brioche bun with a golden crust. Its open top allows the filling to be generously loaded while still holding everything together. In addition to being more convenient, it’s divine!

We also used this change to award the first gold medal for the best new bun to our favourite baker. A big thank you to him!

Frankfurters like nowhere else

The sausage is the heart of a good Hot Dog. So we turned to Marc Schmitz, our passionate artisan butcher who already supplies the meat for our burgers. Together we developed a frankfurter of unmatched quality: made from selected pork and smoked over beechwood, with a natural casing that crackles under the tooth. This recipe was refined for months to obtain a juicy and tasty sausage that you’ll only find in our restaurants.

Homemade sauces

No gourmet Hot Dog without gourmet sauces! All our sauces are homemade at Huggy’s Bar: the chili sauce with a tomato base and minced meat simmered for hours; the cheddar sauce made from a béchamel with grated cheddar; our famous guacamole with ripe avocados; the yellow mustard and BBQ sauce with their slightly sweet notes; and of course the pickles and jalapeños that give you a kick. You can mix and customise them just like for our burgers.

Since the launch of Huggy’s Dogs we have continually improved the concept. The recipes have evolved, the buns have been perfected, new Hot Dogs have appeared and a third is on the way. We’re proud of this little brother of Huggy’s Bar and we hope you’ll love it as much as we do.
